Baptism Testimony
Brother Wen Luo

Hello everyone! My name is Wen. My wife, Lin, our son, Raymond, and I have been attending St Paul's Anglican Church for almost six years.

I was brought up with an atheist education. For many years, I believed that death was simply the end of the body, consciousness, and all human awareness. As a teenager, I thought of death as entering an endless dark tunnel where everything we see, hear, and experience in this life simply disappears. Whenever I thought about death, I felt deeply unsettled and afraid.

When I was twenty years old, my mother passed away from cancer. It was the first time I had experienced the loss of someone so close to me. I felt heartbroken and helpless, and my fear of death became even greater.

When I was thirty-two, I was originally planning to go on a business trip with a friend. Because my schedule changed, he travelled alone instead. A few days later, the flight he was taking home crashed, and everyone on board lost their lives. The crash site was only about ten kilometres from Lin's workplace. When I heard the news, I was shocked, grieved, and deeply shaken. At the same time, I felt an overwhelming sense of awe and gratitude toward God, and I began to seriously question my atheistic beliefs.

Lin and Raymond had been attending a church near our home for many years. About eight years ago, when Raymond was only seven years old, he sincerely asked me, "Dad, why don't you go to church?" His question struck my heart like a bolt of lightning. I had always encouraged my family to attend church, so why wasn't I going myself? Looking back now, I can see that this was the Holy Spirit working in my heart.

After attending St Paul's Anglican Church, I am deeply thankful for Pastor Danny Au Yeung and Pastor Victor Chen faithfully preaching God's Word. I am also grateful to Kenny and Jack for patiently studying the Bible with me one-on-one, to Earnest for inviting me to my first Growth Group Bible study, and to the many brothers and sisters in Christ who have supported and encouraged me as we have grown together in our faith.

Now I know that the One I trust and follow is Jesus Christ. We receive God's grace through faith, and therefore we can face death with peace instead of fear, knowing that we have been saved from God's judgment.

About six months ago, I travelled to Shanghai to run a marathon. Around thirty-six hours before the race, I suddenly developed severe chest pain, with pain radiating from my shoulder down my arm—symptoms that strongly resembled a heart attack. Compared with who I was before I came to faith in Christ, I was much calmer. Instead of being overwhelmed by fear or panic, I kept praying, asking the Lord to give me wisdom and strength. I prayed that I would not let my own pride or desire for personal achievement determine my decision but would do what would honour the Lord and be pleasing to Him. About eight hours before the race, the pain completely disappeared, and by God's grace I was able to finish the marathon safely.

Although every life on earth comes to an end, those who trust in Jesus have a hope that reaches beyond death. As the Bible says, "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith." Jesus has risen from the dead and conquered death. Therefore, death is no longer the extinguishing of life into nothingness; instead, it is the glorious doorway into our eternal home with the Lord.

May we entrust our lives to Him, lay aside our fears, and find in His promises a lifetime of peace that surpasses all understanding and lasting joy.

Thank you.

Sister Shumei Tang

Today I would like to share how I came to faith in Jesus Christ.

As my children grew up and gradually became more independent, I often felt empty, restless, lonely, and discouraged. I tried to fill my time by taking up different activities—I learned to play the piano, studied painting, and attended English classes.

It was through the church's ESL classes that I first met Christians. All of the English teachers were Christians. They were warm, kind, loving, and selflessly devoted to serving others. They often said, "Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins and rose again. As His followers, we seek to live according to His will, showing love and serving others in our daily lives." I was deeply moved by both their words and the way they lived, and it inspired me to start attending church.

I began attending Sunday services and a Thursday morning Bible study group. Jesus said, "As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." Although human love can never compare with the love of Christ, when I came to church I truly experienced the warmth of that love. Here, brothers and sisters rejoice with one another and share one another's burdens. Whenever someone is facing difficulties, people pray for them, care for them, support them, and help them. Together we study God's Word and grow in our faith.

Through the fellowship of the church, I have come to realise that while faith is personal, it is never meant to be lived in isolation. As brothers and sisters encourage and love one another, the church becomes a warm and loving spiritual family. In the past, I was often controlled by negative emotions and lived with constant worry and anxiety. Now, surrounded by the love and care of God's people, I have found a deep sense of peace and rest. My heart has become much lighter, and I truly believe this is a blessing that comes from trusting in God.

My academic background is in the natural sciences. I have always valued reason and believed that science could explain everything. However, as science has continued to develop, we have also discovered that many natural phenomena still cannot be fully explained by our present knowledge. I no longer believe that the universe and human life came into existence purely by chance or through natural processes alone.

As I studied the Bible, my way of thinking was transformed. I came to believe that there is a Creator who made all things—God Himself. God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, into the world to save us by taking upon Himself the punishment for our sins. I am thankful to Jesus Christ, and I desire to trust Him and live according to His Word.

Today, becoming a Christian is not the end of my faith journey, but the beginning of an eternal one. I want to keep growing in my knowledge of God and His truth, to be continually shaped into Christ's likeness, and to deepen my relationship with God through reading the Bible, prayer, and serving Him.

Praise be to God! You are my Lord. You lead me in the paths of righteousness. Whether I walk on the mountaintops or through the valleys, You are always with me, protecting and guiding me.

Thank you.

Sister Xiaoli Chang

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, peace be with you!

My name is Xiaoli Chang. Today, I am filled with gratitude and joy as I stand before God and all of you to be baptised in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

I was born into a traditional Chinese family. In the past, during traditional festivals and special occasions, I would follow my elders in burning incense and worshipping various gods and ancestors. I simply did what they did. Although I worshipped many different gods, I was always confused. I did not really know why I was worshipping them, nor did I ever find true peace. Looking back, my beliefs were more a matter of tradition and an attempt to seek blessings through religious rituals, yet my heart remained empty.

After I came to Australia, my landlady kindly invited my husband and me to attend a church. There, I experienced the sincere and wholehearted love shared among the brothers and sisters in Christ. As I began studying the Bible, one verse deeply touched my heart:

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."

I was amazed to discover that God did not require me to earn His favour by offering sacrifices or gifts. Instead, He loved me first and even gave His Son to die on the cross for my sins. For the first time in my life, I experienced genuine peace and freedom. I finally came to know that He is the one true God—the Creator of heaven and earth, who truly loves me.

Since becoming a Christian, my values and my life have been transformed. Whenever I face difficulties or disappointments, I have learned to come before God and place my trust in Him. I often recite the Lord's Prayer while driving, and each time I do, God renews my heart with His peace.

Today, as I am baptised, I know that this is not the end of my journey, but the beginning of a new life. I believe that Jesus Christ is my personal Saviour and the Lord of my life.

My old self has died with Christ, and in Him I have received new life. From this day forward, my life no longer belongs to me, but to my Lord. Although there will still be storms in the future, I am confident that the Lord's grace will always be sufficient for me.

I would like to thank every brother and sister who has prayed for me and walked alongside me on this journey. I also want to thank my family and friends who are here today to witness this new beginning in my life.

God loves the world. If He could rescue someone like me, who once blindly worshipped idols without knowing the truth, He can surely save many other hearts that are still searching. I want to follow the Lord for the rest of my life, and I pray that God will use my life so that many more people may hear and receive this precious gospel.

Thank you. Amen.

Baptism Testimony: A Journey Home
Jessie Zhang

Dear Pastor, brothers and sisters in Christ,

As I look back on my life, I can clearly see that God has been quietly at work long before I knew Him.

I first came into contact with Christianity when I was in primary school. At that time, I knew very little about God. I simply enjoyed sitting in the church and singing hymns with the other children. Those moments filled me with joy and peace. It was as if there was an invisible Presence in the church, gently comforting and watching over me.

Many years later, while I was living and working in Guangdong, China, I encountered the Christian faith again. Life at that time was quite challenging and complicated. Although I longed to know more about Christianity, I did not have the opportunity to explore it deeply. For a short period, I attended a house church, where I listened to a few simple sermons. Even though my time there was brief, I strongly sensed that my life was somehow deeply connected with the Christian faith. There was a longing in my heart that I could not ignore, yet because of the circumstances around me, it remained unfulfilled.

After I came to Australia, seeing churches everywhere awakened that long-forgotten longing once again. This time, I no longer hesitated. I began searching for a church and eventually joined this church.

When I first walked into the Mandarin congregation at St Paul's Anglican Church, I was immediately overwhelmed by a familiar sense of peace and security that I had not experienced for a long time. I realised that I had not simply been searching for a religion—I had been searching for a true home. Here, I finally found the sense of belonging that I had been longing for.

Whenever the music begins and the congregation sings together in worship, my heart becomes still. The first time I sang the hymn Listen Gently, my heart was instantly softened and filled with peace. In that moment, I laid down the burdens of building a new life in Australia, caring for my family, and facing the pressures of everyday life. I came before God just as I was. Whenever we sing hymns such as Amazing Grace or I Will Go for You, my eyes fill with tears as I experience an indescribable sense of belonging and security in God's love. The loneliness I had never spoken about, and the challenges of living far from my homeland, have found comfort and deep healing through music worship.

As I look back on my journey, I can see more and more clearly that none of this happened by chance. God has been quietly leading me all along. From my first encounter with the Christian faith as a child, to the deep longing I carried through my years of wandering, and now to finding a place of spiritual rest here in Australia, God has never left me. Step by step, He has been drawing me into His presence.

Today, as I stand here to be baptised, this is not only a response to my journey of faith so far, but also the beginning of a new chapter in my life. I gladly confess that Jesus Christ is my personal Saviour and the Lord of my life. I entrust my future completely into His hands, and I pray that I will continue to grow in His love, learn to love and serve others, and share with many people the peace, joy, and sense of belonging that I have found in Him.

Amen.

Baptism Testimony: God Has Been Seeking Me All Along
Ryan Chen

Dear Pastor, brothers and sisters in Christ,

Thank God for His grace that enables me to stand here today to be baptised and to share my testimony with you.

As I look back on my life, I can see that God had been at work in my life long before I came to know Him.

From childhood through different stages of my life, I encountered Christianity in many different ways. When I was young, I watched several films based on Bible stories. As I grew older, I met a number of Christian friends through my work and everyday life. What amazes me even more is that wherever I went, there always seemed to be someone willing to share the gospel with me. On one occasion, a complete stranger even gave me a Bible. At the time, I accepted it politely but never really read it. Looking back now, I am more convinced than ever that none of these things happened by chance. God was gently reminding me, guiding me, and giving me opportunities to come to know Him.

For many years, I believed that as long as I worked hard enough, I could build a good life on my own. Whenever I faced problems, I relied on myself to solve them. But as I grew older, I gradually realised that there are many things in life that cannot be overcome by our own strength. Under the weight of pressure, disappointment, and uncertainty about the future, I often felt lost and helpless. Although everything seemed fine on the outside, deep inside I lacked true peace.

After I came to Australia, those feelings became even stronger. Starting life in a new country meant adapting to a different environment, work, and future plans. It also led me to think more deeply about the meaning and purpose of life.

Through reading the Bible, I came to understand that Jesus Christ willingly took upon Himself the punishment for our sins, died on the cross, and rose again from the dead, so that everyone who believes in Him may receive new life. This truth deeply touched my heart. I began to realise that God loves me, not because I am good enough, but because He graciously accepts me even in my weakness and shortcomings.

Since coming to faith in Christ, the greatest blessing I have received is a peace that I had never known before. In the past, whenever I faced difficulties, I tried to carry every burden by myself. Now I have learned to bring my burdens to God in prayer. Although life still has its challenges, I know that I am no longer alone, because God is always with me.

Today, my decision to be baptised does not mean that I have become perfect or that I no longer have weaknesses. Rather, it is my public confession that Jesus Christ is my Saviour and the Lord of my life. I want to entrust my future to Him, continue learning from His Word, and live as His disciple in my family, my workplace, and every area of my life.

Looking back, I am more convinced than ever that the Christian films I watched, the people who shared the gospel with me at different stages of my life, and the Bible that was placed into my hands were never coincidences. They were all part of the way God was leading me, step by step, into His presence.

I thank God that He never stopped seeking me, and I thank my brothers and sisters in Christ for their love, care, and encouragement along the way. I pray that my life will continue to be a testimony that brings glory to God.

May all glory be to God! Amen.
